Gerald Franklin Thomas, 81 years, of Port Deposit, MD, passed away Thursday, February 15, 2018 York Hospital of York, PA. Born May 21, 1936 in Elkton, MD, he was the son of the late Dan Oscar Thomas and Grace Meriam Miller Thomas.

Mr. Thomas was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served from 1954 until 1957. He was formerly employed by the Aberdeen Proving Ground of Aberdeen, MD, as an experimental test driver. He was also a local barber for many years.

Mr. Thomas is survived by his loving wife of 54 years of marriage, Shirley Ann Patrick Thomas of Port Deposit, MD; son, Kevin Thomas of Port Deposit, MD; daughters, Denise Tollinger and husband, Leo Tollinger, Jr., of New Providence, PA, and Shannon Absher and husband, Steve, of Conowingo, MD; five grandchildren, Shianne Absher Leonard and husband, Kyle, Hunter Tollinger, Garrett Absher, Casey Tollinger, and Makayla; one great grandson, Colton James; sisters, Betty Holbrook and Wanda Andrews.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Thomas was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Lorraine Danielle Tollinger and brother, Dean Thomas of Rising Sun, MD.

Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, February 21, 2018, 11 AM, at the Lee A. Patterson & Son Funeral Home, P.A., Perryville, MD. Visitations for family and friends will be held Tuesday, February 20, 2018, 6 PM until 8 PM, at the funeral home and Wednesday, 10 AM until 11 AM, at the funeral home prior to the funeral service. Pastor Chris Engelberth of the Life Song Christian Church of Elkton, MD, will officiate. Interment will be in Brookview Cemetery, Rising Sun, MD.

I worked with Gerald for many years and was sorry to hear of his passing. He was great to work with, and we had a lot of laughs. I had just moved to Cecil county in 2016 and wanted to look him up. I am sorry I waited to long to see him I will miss him.

Aunt Shirley and family -- Uncle Gerry will be missed. What a legacy left w/ the 50+ years of marriage to each other -- a legacy for your grand children and great grands to come. May God give you peace to carry on and stay strong in your faith. Love Diane, Arianne, Anya and Adeline from Virginia.
