Barbara Ellen Powers

Barbara Ellen Powers, 90 years old, of Conowingo, MD, passed away Saturday, May 16, 2026 in the Christiana Care Hospital of Newark, DE. Born July 27, 1935 in Port Deposit, MD, she was the daughter of the late Russell M. and Ellen Nesbitt Locke.

Mrs. Powers is a graduate of the former Jacob Tome Institute of Port Deposit, MD, Class of 1953, and attended Tome Memorial United Methodist Church. She was formerly employed by the former Bainbridge Naval Training Center and later retired from M&T Bank. She was a member of the Historical Society of Cecil County and a forefather member of the Swedish Colonial Society. She was very proud of her Swedish heritage dating back to the 1600’s and the Nesbitts of Cecil County back to the 1700’s. She enjoyed family, music, crossword puzzles, trivia and genealogy.

Mrs. Powers is survived by her son, N. Dale Powers; three grandchildren, Joshua Powers, Katlyn Warren and N. Cole Powers; as well as six great grandchildren, Hailey, Ryan, Jayden and Carly Powers, Sara and Caleb Stough.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Powers was preceded in death by her husband, Norman J. Powers; brother, Russell Locke, Jr.; and sister, Dorothy Strain.

Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, May 26, 2026, 12 Noon, at the Lee A. Patterson & Son Funeral Home, P.A., of Perryville, MD. Visitation for family and friends will be held Tuesday, May 26, 2026, 11 AM until 12 Noon, at the funeral home prior to the funeral service. Pastor Michael A. Caldwell of the Asbury Methodist Church of Port Deposit, MD, will officiate. Interment will be in Harmony Chapel Cemetery, Port Deposit, MD.
