Burdell Dodd Spencer, age 92, died peacefully on June 2, 2014. Burdell was born in Cleveland, OH, and graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 1948 as a Mechanical Engineer and was a graduate of MIT School of Engineering. His career began with The National Shoe Company in Massachusetts where he held a patent on foot measuring devices, and concluded with 30 years service as a civilian employee of the Department of the Army in the Test and Evaluation Command at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Aberdeen, MD.
Loving father of Mark Spencer of Waldorf, MD; Matthew Spencer and wife, Lana, of Aberdeen, MD; Susan Andrefsky and husband, Walter, of Aberdeen, MD; grandfather to Danielle Jenkins, Emily Andrefsky, Rachel Champagne, Ashley Spencer, Leland Spencer, Althea Spencer and Harmony Wright Spencer; and great grandfather to Wren and Jordan Bates.
Burdell was a skilled and avid bow hunter, fisherman and superb golfer. He was a man who lived and taught responsibility and the ethics of hard work to his children. His credo was “If you said you would do something it was as good as a promise”.
Burdell was a dedicated husband, father and grandparent who will be dearly missed.
In addition to his parents, Burdell was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years, Doris Beaulieu Spencer and daughter, Jennifer Spencer.
