Conrad Clarence Gaylord, Sr.

Conrad Clarence Gaylord was born on May 10, 1936, to the late Leaters (Gayle) Gaylord and Amelia (Margaret) Haines. He peacefully departed this life on January 26, 2025, at home surrounded by his loving family.

At a young age, Conrad attended Bethel AME Church in Port Deposit, MD, alongside his brothers and sisters. He was educated in the Cecil County school system, attending Port Deposit Colored School and later Carver High School in Elkton, MD.

Conrad had a lifelong passion for cars and motorcycles. He also had a deep love for driving big construction trucks, a topic he often spoke about with enthusiasm. His career began with a food service company at Aberdeen Proving Ground, but he soon found his calling in trucking. He worked for Hopkins Quarry, delivering granite stone to Delaware, before later joining George & Lynch, where he earned multiple safety and excellence awards for his exemplary accident-free driving record.

Conrad leaves to cherish his memory his beloved children: Karen Gassaway (Kendall), Kolene Gaylord, Conrad Gaylord Jr. (Jodi), Kevin Gaylord (Sharon), Kristina Gaylord, and Regina Brown; as well as one stepson, Charles Goad Jr. He will also be dearly missed by a host of 13 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-granddaughter, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

He leaves behind his only surviving sister, Florence Marshall, and one sister-in-law, Ruby Woodring (Bill). He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Leaters "Junie" Gaylord Jr. and Gene (Bunny) Gaylord Jr.

He was also preceded in death by both his wives, Eleanor Gaylord, and Barbara Gaylord.

His presence, wisdom, and love will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him. He was quick with, often sharing stories from his trucking days that carried lessons of perseverance and dedication.
