David R. Brown of Elkton, MD, formerly of Perryville, died December 18, 2014. He was a resident of Abbey Manor Assisted Living and cared for by Amedisys Hospice. David was diagnosed with colon cancer in May of 2013.
He was born on October 16, 1955 in Havre de Grace to Avis C. Brown and the late Carleton W. Brown. Despite his limitations due to autism, David graduated from the sheltered workshop and group home that are now part of the Bayside Community Network. He lived independently in his own apartment for thirty years, drove a car, and proudly worked as a custodian at the I-95 rest stop for twenty years.
David returned to the Bayside facility when his illness forced his retirement. The Bayside staff helped David realize his dreams of becoming a hairdresser. They surrounded David with so much love and attention that he enjoyed every moment of his dying days.
He is survived by his mother Avis C. Brown of Elkton, sister Nancy DiAngelo and her husband Tom of Perryville, and his niece Mary DiAngelo of Alexandria, Virginia.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 9, 2015, 11 AM, at the Perryville Presbyterian Church followed by a luncheon in the church house.
Memorial contributions may be made to Bayside Community Network in care of Lee A. Patterson & Son Funeral Home, P.A., P.O. Box 766, Perryville, MD 21903-0766.
