Dennis A. Spelker, age 73, of Perryville, MD, passed away at home on Friday, November 15, 2013. He was a loving husband and father, a warm friend, and influential mentor to many.
Born in Mount Pleasant, PA, he was the son of the late William and Helen Spelker. Dennis was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps. After receiving his honorable discharge, he earned a business degree from Rutgers University, and later had a successful career in finance at AXA Equitable in New York City. Dennis was a longtime resident of Middle Village, NY, before making his home in Perryville, MD, with his wife 12 years ago. Dennis was an avid reader who loved military history, and he also enjoyed travelling, gardening, and playing crossword puzzles. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
This year, Dennis celebrated his 30-year wedding anniversary with his wife, Pam. Dennis is also survived by his son, William Spelker and wife Jill Laptosky of Washington, DC; daughter, Lisa Spelker and husband Tim Wild of Bel Air, MD; daughter, Kim and husband Paul Hanlin of Highland Village, TX; son, Aaron and wife Adrienne Spelker of Boston, MA; Sophia Latsos, who was like a daughter, of Berlin, Germany; sister, Bernice Raymond of Boca Raton, FL; and brother, Eric Spelker of Arden, NC. He had eight grandchildren: Aidan, Brenna, Gregory, Jack, Lori, Sarah, Truitt, and Whitney. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Arnold Spelker.
Dennis will be inurned at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA, at a future date. In lieu of flowers, a contribution can be made to the American Heart Association at www.heart.org/donate.
