Donald Mackey Pitt

Donald Mackey Pitt, 88, of Rising Sun, MD, passed away peacefully at home on March 8, 2012, surrounded by his loving and devoted family. Donald was born in Port Deposit, MD, on December 3, 1923, son of the late Walter and Alice Jackson Pitt. He attended Tome School, Port Deposit and proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy as a Seaman Gunner, 1st Class during WW II from 1942-1946. After the war he worked in the post office at the Bainbridge Naval Training Center, Port Deposit. Later, he worked at Aberdeen Proving Ground as an armament tester, retiring after 30 years of service. Donald enjoyed spending time with his family. He will be remembered most for his kindness and sense of humor. He was a member of Janes United Methodist Church and the Rising Sun American Legion Post No. 194 serving in the honor guard for many years. In 2009 he was honored by the American Legion for 60 years of membership, service and dedication. Donald is survived by his best friend and loving wife of 63 years, Beverley Brown Pitt and five beloved daughters; Kathleen Smith and her husband, Samuel, of Rising Sun, Donna Reynolds and her husband, Robert, of Rising Sun, Marilyn Reburn of Perryville, Robin Pitt and JoEllen Pitt, both of Rising Sun. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren, Ted Reburn, Christopher Struble and wife, Jill, Kelly Smith, Shane Struble, Evan Koldus and Haylee Pinto; and 3 great grandchildren, Zachary, Tanner and Quinn Struble. Also surviving are three sisters, Margaret Bailey of Rising Sun, Ruth Ann Barclay of Port Deposit and Alice Robinson of Rehobeth Beach, DE. Donald was preceded in death by a sister, Marie Pitt and brothers, Emerson Pitt and Harry Pitt. Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, March 13, 2012, 12 Noon, at the Lee A. Patterson & Son Funeral Home, P.A., Perryville, MD. Visitation for family and friends will be held Tuesday, March 13, 2012, 10 AM until 12 Noon, at the funeral home prior to the funeral service. Interment will be in Harford Memorial Gardens, Aberdeen, MD. Contributions may be given in honor of Donald to the Rising Sun American Legion Post No. 194 Honor Guard or Seasons Hospice in care of Lee A. Patterson & Son Funeral Home, P.A., P.O.
