Donald Leroy Shires

Donald L Shires, 78 years, of Conowingo, MD, died Thursday, December 8, 2016 in UM Upper Chesapeake Medical Center, Bel Air, MD.  Born February 17, 1938,  in Baltimore, MD,  he was the son of the late Holly Wellington and Frances Lydia Reynolds Shires. Mr. Shires was affiliated with Oak Grove Baptist Church of Bel Air, M D and was a member of the Harmony Masonic Lodge No. 53 of Port Deposit, MD. He was a veteran of the U.S, Army and was a State Supervisor of Assessments with Cecil County, MD as well as the proprietor of Reedy’s Barber Shop in Perryville, MD. Mr. Shires is survived by his wife, Marlene McCardell Shires, his sons, Donald L. Shires, Jr., Springfield, VA, Dale R. Shires, Perryville, MD and Scott A. Shires, Colora, MD; Grandchildren, Timothy, Rebecca, Alex, Max, Luke, Lily and Haylee; brothers Holly “Deak” Shires and Kenneth Shires and sisters, Betty Burcham and Jean Elville. In addition to his parents, Mr. Shires was preceded in death by his brothers, Wilbur Shires, Russell Shires and  Jack Shires, and sisters, Ruby McGlothlin and Eleanor Burcham. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Memphis, TN  in care of Lee A. Patterson & Son Funeral Home, P.A., P.O. Box 766, Perryville, MD 21903-0766. Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, December 13, 2016,  at 11AM  at the Conowingo Baptist Church of Conowingo, MD.  Reverend Ronald Elville will officiate. Visitation for family and friends will be held the same day from 10AM-11AM at the  church .  Interment will be in Conowingo Baptist Church Cemetery, Conowingo, MD. Arrangements by Lee A.
