Evelyn Christine Harris Love was born June 12, 1930 in Rolandville, Port Deposit, MD, to the late Frank and Ruth Virginia Thomas Harris.
Evelyn was a faithful member of Bethel A.M.E. Church. She accepted the Lord at an early age, served on the Board of Trustees for many years, was a Missionary member, a member of the Lay Organization and the kitchen committee. She was known for making her famous potato salad for programs, activities and fundraisers. She loved singing in the church choir until her health failed. Following her illness and rehabilitation at Lorien, God called her home on July 8, 2015 at the University of Maryland, Harford Memorial Hospital of Havre de Grace, MD.
Ess, as she was fondly called, attended Port Deposit Elementary School and Carver High School of Elkton, MD. Following graduation, she worked in food services at Bainbridge Naval Training Center and the V.A. Medical Center of Perry Point, MD. She later trained to become a Nursing Assistant.
Her hobbies included crocheting, cooking, shopping, gardening and watching television. She loved having her hair styled and fingernails manicured.
In addition to her parents, Evelyn was preceded in death by her children, Antionetta, Michael, Maurice and Don Ulysses; former husband, Harold Love, Sr.; sisters, Helen, Doris, Joan and Ruth Ann; brothers, Charles, Jr. and Edward.
She leaves to mourn one son, Harold Love, Jr. of Easton, MD; sister, Faye Anderson of Suitland, MD; brother, Leo Townley of Connecticut; grandchildren, Dwayne (Terry) Hague of Kannapolis, NC, Viven and Vance Cargill of Aberdeen, MD; great grandson, Tyrell Hague of Kannapolis, NC; daughter-in-law, Carolyn Nutter-Harris of Aberdeen, MD; sisters-in-law, Henrietta Townley of Connecticut and Sandra Townley of Perryville, MD; brother-in-law, Hastings Anderson of Suitland, MD; devoted companion, Ralph Mills of Port Deposit, MD; two godchildren, Sheila Matthews and Mariah Vass; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, including her truly devoted friend, Paula LaRue.
Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, July 18, 2015, 12 Noon, at the Lee A. Patterson & Son Funeral Home, P.A., Perryville, MD. Visitation for family and friends will be held Saturday, July 18, 2015, 10 AM until 12 Noon, at the funeral home prior to the funeral service. Interment will be in Jones Memorial Cemetery, Port Deposit, MD.
