Frances "Franie" (Flaharty) Linton

Frances “Franie” Flaharty Linton, 91, of Port Deposit, Md died peacefully on May 3, 2024, at her home. Born in the small town of Port Deposit in 1932, during the Great Depression, Franie often recounted stories of the struggles her family endured, but also described the close-knit community of friends she found there. She was a proud graduate of the Jacob Tome Institute.

Franie was a very generous person and found a lot of satisfaction volunteering with many local and civic organizations.  She devoted innumerable hours working on the Water Witch Fire Company ambulance in the 1970’s -‘80’s as one of the first female EMT’s in Maryland and had been a member of the Water Witch Ladies’ Auxiliary for many years.  Franie was invited to volunteer her time to help revamp the Cecil County Emergency Dispatch center, serving as Assistant Director. Many of her final volunteer years were spent at Bainbridge Elementary School and Calvert Manor Nursing Home. Outside of her volunteer work she enjoyed crochet and embroidery, reading, listening to gospel music, and spending time with family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Paul N. Linton, Sr., and is survived by her five children, Linda & Sam Coale, Jim Linton, Sr., Sue & Larry Jameson, Paul N. Linton, Jr. & Linda Barton, and Howard & Maria Linton; her grandchildren Susan Coale Cole & Mike Cole, Steven & Kari Coale, Jim Linton, Jr. & Pam Grant,  Kevin & Melanie Vaughan, Samantha & David Ramirez, Angie &  Jason Vaccaro and Abie Linton; and her great-grandchildren Hunter Cole, Jessi Vaccaro, Nathan Linton, Tony Vaccaro, Timothy “TJ” Vaughan, and Violet Coale; and her sister, Dorothy Miller.
