Francis Earl Dixon, Sr.

Francis Earl Dixon, Sr., age 89, of Colora, MD, died Sunday, August 19, 2012 at Elkton Care and Rehabilitation Center. Born May 28, 1923 in Perryville, MD, he was the son of the late Henry William and Mary Janet Harris Dixon. He, older brothers Albert and James H. and several cousins were raised by his grandparents, Samuel and Marion Harris. He often lived with several aunts and uncles. Francis was always a farm boy at heart. He worked on several farms in Harford and Cecil Counties. At age 40 he switched to industry working in Newark and Bear, DE. He retired at age 66. Francis loved traveling, camping and square dancing. He was a Cub Scout leader and served on the District Council. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church and a member of the Colora Civic Association. Francis is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Margaret I. Burkins Dixon; sons, Francis E., Jr., and wife, Chris, Samuel C. and wife, Cathy A., Ronald L. and wife, Rita M.; 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Francis was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary M. Burkins Dixon, and his youngest son, Gerald C. Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, August 23, 2012, 2 PM, at the Lee A. Patterson & Son Funeral Home, P.A., Perryville, MD.  Visitation for family and friends will be held Wednesday, August 22, 2012, 6 PM until 8 PM, at the funeral home.  Pastor Will Crossan of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church, Colora, MD, will officiate. Interment will be in West Nottingham Cemetery, Colora, MD. Arrangements by Lee A.
