Hazel Margaret Diehl

Hazel Margaret Diehl, 88 years, of Rising Sun, MD, passed away Wednesday, July 30, 2025 in the Abbey Manor Assisted Living facility of Elkton, MD. Born June 27, 1937 in Cumberland, MD, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Christine Nitenburg McBride.

Hazel was employed for 17 years by the Cecil County Public School System, where she worked as a secretary and bookkeeper at the Rising Sun Elementary School. She was a longtime member of the Janes United Methodist Church of Rising Sun, MD.

Hazel is survived by her son, Bruce W. Diehl (Jan); daughter, Vicki Lynne Farrell (Bill); five grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; and sister, Louise Neff.

In addition to her parents, Hazel was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce E. Diehl; brothers, William McBride and Richard McBride; and sisters, Lou Ellen McBride, Ramona “Kay” Leighty and Juanita Detrick.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society or the Amedisys Hospice Foundation in care of Lee A. Patterson & Son Funeral Home, P.A., P.O. Box 766, Perryville, MD 21903-0766.

Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, August 5, 2025, 11 AM, at the Lee A. Patterson & Son Funeral Home, P.A., of Perryville, MD. Visitation for family and friends will be held Tuesday, August 5, 2025, 10 AM until 11 AM, at the funeral home prior to the funeral service. Pastor Ken Shires of the Edgewood Baptist Church of Edgewood, MD, will officiate. Interment will be private.
