Howard John Schuckler

With family at his side, Howard J. Schuckler, affectionately known as Bussie and Grand Bus, passed away at his home on April 21, 2014. He was born on June 28, 1920 in Wilmington, DE, son of the late Howard and Catherine Schuckler. Howard leaves behind two loving daughters, Carol Baicy and Patricia Holleran, Carol’s fiancee, Antonio Salles, Pat’s husband, Tom; brother, Joseph Schuckler and sister, Louise Jannaman, of Wilmington, DE; sister, Kathleen Kosinski, of North East, MD; grandchildren, Jamie Barnes and wife, Sara, of Warwick, MD, Holly Millon Sainte Claire and husband, Max, of Jupiter FL, TJ Holleran and Nadya Kozhevnikova, of Redwood City, CA, Candice A. Agnello and husband, Ray, of Charlottesville, VA; great-grandchildren, Cameron Barnes, Allison Barnes, Rachel and Kirsten Millon Sainte Clair and Tony Agnello. With his passing, we have lost another member of a select group of our nation’s war heroes. From the time he was a young man, Howard loved to fly planes. This passion carried over into his military life when he was a pilot in World War II where he served as a captain with the India-China division of the Air Transport Command and in the Korean Conflict where he earned a Purple Heart. After the war, Howard lived in Charlestown, MD, where he help build and volunteer for the fire department. It was there that Howard developed his interest in the bay and earned his captain’s license. As a civilian, Howard worked alongside Aberdeen Proving Ground’s top physicists until his retirement. Bussie was a true Renaissance man, loving nature, books, good music, wine, cowboy movies and of course, family. In addition, he was an artist, loved playing golf, an airplane builder and an accomplished woodworker. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project in care of Lee A.
