Ida “Jake” Devonshire passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, May 19th, in the Christiana Hospital following a long battle with Dementia. Jake was born May 23rd 1938 in Chester County, PA. She was 86 at the time of her passing.
Jake graduated from Avon Grove High School in 1956. She worked at the Perry Point Veteran Affairs Hospital as a Ward secretary and later in Patients’ Funds for 36 years. Jake was a member of several bowling leagues and an avid card player with friends in her younger years. Later in life she became interested in gardening, a passion she passed on to her daughters, and knitting, creating beautiful blankets for loved ones.
Jake was a generous, devoted family member who was always willing to sacrifice for family and friends. She made everyone in her life feel valued and was the best in the game at creating amazing holiday memories. She was trustworthy (except when playing Yahtzee), strong, and an amazing mother and grandmother. Her bright smile always lit up the room and the memory of her carefree laughter will always warm the hearts of those lucky enough to have heard it.
Jake is survived by her daughters, Brenda Rasnake (Gary) and Linda Bauguess (Mark); seven grandchildren, Matthew Rasnake (Ashley), Samantha Rasnake, Steven Bauguess (Jolene), Cindi Bauguess (Michael), Ethan Rasnake, Katlyn Bauguess (Luthor), and Jordan Newby; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Jake was preceded in death by her youngest daughter, Janet Newby (Lance), and her husband, Millard T. Devonshire.
