Janice Frances (Nickle) Gilbert

Janice Frances Gilbert, 80 years, of Perryville, MD, passed away Thursday, October 6, 2022 in University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Medical Center of Bel Air, MD. Born October 25, 1941 in Perryville, MD, she was the daughter of the late Robert “Buzz” C. and Dorothy R. Nickle.

Mrs. Gilbert had worked as a school bus driver, first behind the wheel of bus 32. Later, she drove bus 59 and was adored by the many children whom she transported back and forth to school for 35 years. After retiring from the bus industry, she continued to assist people in their travels - providing directions, information, and tourism recommendations for the State of Maryland at the Chesapeake House in North East, MD.

Her pastimes included reading – she wore out two Kindles in recent years - and was working on her third - at the time of her passing. She also enjoyed playing solitaire and watching Hallmark Christmas movies.

Mrs. Gilbert is survived by her loving son, Richard “Rich” Gilbert, Jr., of Perryville, MD, and her sister, Dorothy E. Bryant of Port Deposit, MD. She will also be greatly missed by a slew of fire department and tourism “kids” whom she considered to be family.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Gilbert was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Gilbert Sr., who died in 1998, and brother, Robert C. Nickle, Jr.

Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, October 13, 2022, 11 AM, at the Lee A. Patterson & Son Funeral Home, P.A., of Perryville, MD. Visitation for family and friends will be held Thursday, October 13, 2022, 10 AM until 11 AM, at the funeral home prior to the funeral service. Pastor Robert Nickle, III, of the Living Waters Church of God of Newark, DE, will officiate. Interment will be in Hopewell Cemetery, Port Deposit, MD.
