John Harding Rakes, Jr.

John Harding Rakes, Jr., 71 yrs, of Aberdeen, MD, died Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at his residence. Born March 19, 1944 in Havre de Grace, MD, he was the son of Bernice DeMar Rakes and the late John H. Rakes, Sr. Mr. Rakes was formerly employed as a welder by Lock Joint of Perryman, MD. He was a 38-year member of the Sons of the American Legion Susquehanna Post No. 135 of Perryville, MD, and a member of Moose Lodge No. 1450 of Aberdeen, MD. In addition to his mother, Mr. Rakes is survived by his daughters, Kimberly A. Rakes and Tonya L. McCurry, both of Aberdeen, MD, Shannon J. Wolbert of Conowingo, MD, Karen M. Crissman of Chesapeake, VA, and Linda M. Shumpert of Utah; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; brothers, Frank J. Rakes and Richard L. Hoak. Mr. Rakes was preceded in death by his father, John H. Rakes, Sr.; wife, Patricia Loveless-Rakes; and son, John H. Rakes, III. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Perryville Fire Company, American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, Seasons Hospice, Amedisys Hospice or University of Maryland Medical Center, Children’s Hospital, in care of Lee A. Patterson & Son Funeral Home, P.A., P.O. Box 766, Perryville, MD 21903-0766. Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, January 6, 2015, 1 PM, at the Lee A. Patterson & Son Funeral Home, P.A., Perryville, MD. Visitation for family and friends will be held Tuesday, January 6, 2015, 11 AM until 1 PM, at the funeral home prior to the funeral service. Father Jay McKee of Good Shepherd Parish will officiate. Interment will be in Mt. Erin Cemetery, Havre de Grace, MD. Pallbearers are Richard Hoak, Frank Rakes, Steve DeMar, Frank Bolles, David Murphy and John J. DeMar, Jr.
