Joseph Emerson Craig, 94 yrs, of Havre de Grace, MD, died Sunday, October 9, 2011, in Brightview Assisted Living in Bel Air, MD. Born April 30, 1917, Craigtown, Port Deposit, MD, he was the son of the late Robert Bruce and E. Jane Bradfield Craig.
Emerson was a member of the Havre de Grace United Methodist Church, Havre de Grace, MD, and a veteran of the United States Army. He is a graduate of the former Jacob Tome Institute, Port Deposit, MD, Class of 1936; a graduate of Goldey Beacom College, Class 1940, and a graduate of the University of Maryland, Class 1952.
From 1939 until his retirement in 1973, Mr. Craig served as Chief, Civilian Personnel Division, Department of Defense, Aberdeen Proving Ground, Aberdeen, MD. He served as Councilman on the Havre de Grace City Council from 1975 until 1978; from 1979 until 1985 he was employed in the Industrial Relations Office, Owens, Illinois; from 1982 until 1990 he served as a Civilian Personnel Consultant for the Harford County Government; and from 1957 until 1959 he served as Adjunct Professor - Personnel at the Harford Junior College in Bel Air, MD.
Emerson is survived by his daughter, Joyce Elizabeth Craig Dennis and husband, Robert, of Hickory, NC; son, David Randolph Craig and wife, Melinda, of Havre de Grace, MD; daughter-in-law Nancy B. Craig, Murfreesboro, TN; seven grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Emerson was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Foard Craig; son, Jeffrey Emerson Craig; brothers, Morton Craig, Clayton Craig, Robert Craig, Paul Craig, Howard Craig, Murray Craig, Donald Craig, Blaine Craig; sisters, Virginia C. Lamdin, Helen Thompson and Elsie Gilbert.

Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, October 14, 2011, 10 AM, at the Havre de Grace United Methodist Church, Havre de Grace, MD. Visitations for family and friends will be held Thursday, October 13, 2011, 2 - 4 PM and 7 - 9 PM, at the Lee A. Patterson & Son Funeral Home, P.A., Perryville, MD. Pastor Norman Obenshain of the Havre de Grace United Methodist Church, Havre de Grace, MD will officiate. Interment will be in Asbury Cemetery, Port Deposit, MD.
