Klara Fransizka (Ameling) Gellrich

Klara Fransizka Gellrich, 97 years, of Lititz, PA, formerly of North East, MD, passed away Monday, August 5, 2024 in the Luther Acres Retirement Community of Lititz, PA.

Born in Coesfeld, Germany, Klara was the daughter of the late Josef and Anna Nattler Ameling and the seventh of eight daughters. She worked in an orphanage following World War II and met a handsome young man, Helmut, at a barn dance in Coesfeld. She followed him to the U.S. where they married in 1954.

Mrs. Gellrich was a member of St. Teresa’s Catholic Church of Port Deposit, MD. She was formerly employed as a sewing technician by W.L. Gore of Elkton, MD.

The greatest joy of Klara’s life was her family. She cooked legendary meals and made holidays special. She was happiest when children and grandchildren were gathered around her table or playing games on Sunday afternoons.

Klara is preceded in death by her husband, Helmut. She is survived by her son, George (Mary) and daughters Anne (Kathie) and Lisa Weidemoyer (James). She was Oma to Christina, Kevin, Carly, Heidi, and Greta and Grossoma to Olivia, Luke, Mark, Audrey, Kayla, and Noah.

A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Tuesday, August 13, 2024, 11 AM, at the Good Shepherd Catholic Church of Perryville, MD. Visitation for family and friends will be held Monday, August 12, 2024, 6 PM until 8 PM, at the funeral home. Father John Abrahams of Good Shepherd Parish of Perryville, MD, will officiate. Interment will be in North East Cemetery, North East, MD.
