Leland Blair Brown, Sr., 91 years, of Port Deposit, MD, passed away peacefully Thursday, March 12, 2026 at his daughter’s residence in Perryville. Born at home, July 27, 1934 in Rose Valley, PA, he was the son of the late Leland Nelson and Elizabeth Blair Brown.
Leland was a Chemist and owner of the Delaware Valley Laboratories. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Gettysburg College and was a member of Sigma Chi. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served June 1954 until June 1962 as a Chinese linguist. He was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church of Perryville, MD, a charter member of the North East Rotary Club, and a member of the Rising Sun American Legion Post No. 194. He was a lifelong Rotarian; past President and he earned the Paul Harris Foundation Award level five.
Leland grew up spending summers on the Chesapeake Bay and was an experienced sailor and captain. He loved to garden and grew flowers, fruit and vegetables in his home garden. Leland was a beekeeper and taught school children about honey bees when his children were young. He loved jazz music, to travel to exotic lands and of course, a good beer. He was known for tinkering in the wood shop or on old cars, his generous heart and loud “hot chicken!” sneezes. Leland and his wife, Jean, opened their home to many foster children for over twenty years in Chester County, Pennsylvania. He was a loving servant in his faith and always ready for an adventure.
Leland is survived by his daughters, Carolyn Taylor Brown and Julie Ellen Busseau; sons, Leland Blair Brown, Jr., and Jeffrey Thomas Brown, sons in law, Bob Taylor and Robert Busseau and daughter in law, Linda Nunez, four grandsons, Ashton, Samuel, Caelan and Leland; brother, William Malcolm Brown and sister-in-law, Emily Brown and brother-n-law, Matthew Arrell and sister-in-law, Patti Arrell.
In addition to his parents, Leland was preceded in death by his wife, Jean C. Brown; brothers, William “Billy” Thompson Brown, Nelson Harry Brown, and Herbert Thompson Brown; and sister, Dorothy Brown Lewandowski.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to The Michael J Fox Foundation in Tribute to Leland Brown https://tribute.michaeljfox.org/tribute-page.php?id=3508&np=true
