Lorraine (Cook) Claborn

Lorraine Claborn, Retired Registered Nurse Lorraine Cook Claborn, 79 years, of The Villages, FL, died Sunday, October 2, 2011, in the Citizen’s Care & Rehabilitation Center, Havre de Grace, MD. Born April 26, 1932, in Jacksonville, MD, she was the daughter of the late Charles H. and Dorothy Rider Cook. Lorraine was formerly employed by the Franklin Square Hospital Center, Baltimore, MD, as a Registered Nurse and is survived by her husband, Kenneth D. Claborn, The Villages, FL, whom she was married to for 45 years; sons, David B. Claborn, Bel Air, MD, James C. Claborn, Stevensville, MD, Douglas S. Claborn, Glen Rock, PA; step-sons, David W. Claborn, Marion, OH, George H. Claborn, Amherst, NH; daughter, Janis C. Umetin, Havre de Grace, MD; seven grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, one great grandchild, one step-great grandchild; and brother, Charles R. Cook, Keymar, MD. Lorraine was preceded in death by her former husband, Frederick J. Nelson, Catonsville, MD, and brothers, Clifford G. Cook, Rising Sun, MD, and Wilbur V. Cook, Parkton, MD. Lorraine graduated from Towson High School, Towson, MD, in 1949 and received her nursing diploma from Lutheran Hospital, Baltimore, MD, in 1954, where she began her nursing career and then worked at the old Franklin Square Hospital in Baltimore, MD. In 1989, she completed her full-time career over-seeing multiple operating rooms as the Charge Nurse at the Franklin Square Hospital Center. In her retirement, Lorraine was an active volunteer with several organizations: Library Volunteer, Baltimore County Library System at Hereford, ME; Sunday Chapel Service Volunteer through the Perryville Lions and Lioness Club outreach at the VA Hospital in Perry Point, MD; Victim Advocate, Cecil County Deomestic Violence/Rape Crisis Program, Elkton, MD; Emergency Dept. Volunteer at the Harford Memorial Hospital, Havre de Grace, MD, and an Animal Care Giver at the All Creatures Sanctuary, Oklahawa, FL. She also volunteered at various one day community events and healthcare outreaches. Additionally, during her retireement years, Lorraine continued RN part-time employment at the Lutheran Social Service’s Shrewsbury Lutheran Home, Shrewsbury, PA; Citizen’s Care & Rehabilitation Center, Havre de Grace, MD, and the Calvert Manor Healthcare Center, Inc., Rising Sun, MD. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to All Creatures Sanctuary, Okahawa, FL or to the Cecil County Domestic Violence Center, Elkton, MD, in care of Lee A. Patterson & Son Funeral Home, P.A., P.O. Box 766, Perryville, MD 21903-0766. A memorial service is scheduled for Sunday, October 9, 2011, 1 PM, at the Lee A. Patterson & Son Funeral Home, P.A., Perryville, MD. Visitation with the immediate family will be from 12 Noon until 1 PM prior to the service. Rev. John Richardson will officiate.  Interment will be private. Arrangements by Lee A. Patterson & Son Funeral Home, P.A., Perryville, MD.
