Margaret “Joan” Thompson-McCardell, age 83, of Perryville, MD, lost her battle with cancer on October 2, 2014. Born March 27, 1931 in Perryville, she was the daughter of the late James K. and Lois Hasson Page.
Joan had a long career in banking starting with the National Bank of Perryville. She also owned and managed a department store with her first husband, James “Tinker” Thompson. She was a long-time member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church of Perryville. She belonged to the Soroptimist Club of Harford County, and was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Susquehanna American Legion Post No. 135 of Perryville.
Joan is survived by her second husband, Willard “Mac” McCardell and his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Also by her son, Timothy Thompson, his wife, Eileen Thompson, and their children, Shannon Alexander, Kelly Sentman, Andrea Moodie and her husband, Gary, Caleb Thompson and his wife, Jennifer, Devon Thompson, and Sean Sinclair. Her great grandchildren are Gabrielle Alexander, Bradley Alexander, Logan Alexander, Dylan Sentman, Emmerson Sentman, Desiree Thompson, Faith Thompson, Romeo Thompson, and Brannon Sinclair. Joan is also survived by her sister, Beverly McMillan.
Joan was preceded in death by her first husband, James “Tinker” Thompson; daughters, Sandra Jane, Linda Joan, and Barbara Lynn; sons, James Kay and James Willis. Joan also lost her brothers, Edgar McMillan, James Page, Carl Page and Robert Page.

Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, October 10, 2014, 12 Noon, at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church of Perryville, MD. Visitation for family and friends will be held Thursday, October 9, 2014, 6 PM until 8 PM, at the Lee A. Patterson & Son Funeral Home, P.A., Perryville, MD. Rev. Patricia Drost of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church will officiate. Interment will be in St. Mark’s Cemetery, Perryville, MD.
