Mary Anna Rakes

Mary Anna McDowell Rakes, 92 years, of Colora, MD, passed away peacefully Monday, September 22, 2025 at home. Born December 18, 1932 in Elkton, MD, she was the daughter of the late Edwin Talmage and Annie Louise Kirkpatrick McDowell.

Mary Anna was the owner/operator of the former Rakes Floral Shop of Colora, MD.

She is survived by her sons, Earl G. Rakes, Jr., and wife, Paula, and David Rakes, Sr., and wife, Vicki; daughters, Robin Montgomery and Joyce Brown and husband, Rob; grandchildren, Michael, Jr., and wife, Malinda, Kristen and husband, Phil, Derick and wife, Sheila, Christi and husband, Victor, Jacqueline and husband, Larry, David and wife, Sara, Jason and Tommy Dickerson; step-grandchildren, Albert, Amy, and Richard; 16 great-grandchildren; and five great step-grandchildren.

Mary Anna was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Glenn Rakes, Sr.; son-in-law, Michael L. Montgomery; and sisters, Ethel Louise Brown and Emma Marie Crabtree.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Conowingo Baptist Church Cemetery in care of Lee A. Patterson & Son Funeral Home, P.A., P.O. Box 766, Perryville, MD 21903-0766.

Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, September 29, 2025, 11 AM, at the Lee A. Patterson & Son Funeral Home, P.A., of Perryville, MD. Visitation for family and friends will be held Monday, September 29, 2025, 10 AM until 11 AM, at the funeral home prior to the funeral service. Pastor Melanie Longacre of the Rising Sun Church of the Nazarene, Rising Sun, MD, will officiate. Interment will be in the Conowingo Baptist Church Cemetery, Conowingo, MD.
