Mary Jo Tyrrell-Waddell

Mary Jo Tyrrell-Waddell, 74 yrs, a resident of Elkton, MD, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 3, 2024 at home surrounded by her loving husband, Johnnie, and sisters.

Born June 30, 1949 in Havre de Grace, MD, she was the daughter of late Norman P. Merchant and Ruth Ann Thomas-Trego.

She was employed by the Maryland Transportation Authority, was a member of the Susquehanna American Legion Post No. 135 Auxiliary, enjoyed playing bingo, and a collector of frogs. She loved to shop and give little gifts to every one of her close friends and family. Her greatest love in life was spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mary Jo is survived by her loving husband, Johnnie Waddell; stepdaughter, Teresa Waddell; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Holly Merchant, Jessie McKinney (Ed), Nancy Trego (Tim) and Betty Trego (Jamie); brother, Howard Merchant (Lula).

Mary Jo was preceded in death by her daughter, Laura Williams; son, Ardell Williams; sisters, Delores Cavanaugh and Roberta Merchant; and brothers, Norman McCann and Manley Merchant (Junior).

A celebration of Mary Jo’s life will be held on Sunday, May 12, 2024, 1:30 pm, at the Susquehanna American Legion Post No. 135, 300 Cherry Street, Perryville, MD. Mary Jo’s   brother-in-law, Ken Cavanaugh, will officiate.
