Melvin Duffy Patterson

Melvin Duffy Patterson, 88 years, of Perryville, MD, passed away Thursday, January 12, 2023. Born October 21, 1934 in Perryville, MD, he was the son of the late Melvin D. Patterson, Sr., and Jane Barns Patterson.

Duffy served four years with the United States Navy and four years with the United States Army. During this time, he became a proud member of the 82nd Airborne Paratroopers of Fort Bragg, NC. Duffy was a member of the Susquehanna American Legion Post No. 135 of Perryville, MD, for 63 years. Over the years he worked as an underwater diver at the Conowingo Dam, a truckdriver, and a self-employed contractor.

Duffy is survived by sons, Michael Patterson and wife, Cheryl, and Scott Patterson; daughter, Joyce Goodman; two grandchildren, Kristy Patterson and Emma Jo Patterson; sisters, Peggy Phillips and Sue Morningstar; and his devoted sidekick, his dog Rudy.

In addition to his parents, Duffy was preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Elaine, and two sisters, Mary Schweers and Eleanor Cole.

Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, January 20, 2023, 12 Noon, at the Lee A. Patterson & Son Funeral Home, P.A., of Perryville, MD. Visitation for family and friends will be held Friday, January 20, 2023, 10 AM until 12 Noon, at the funeral home prior to the funeral service. Pastor Michael A. Caldwell of the Asbury United Methodist Church of Port Deposit, MD, will officiate. Interment will be in St. Mark’s Cemetery, Perryville, MD.
