Mildred Elizabeth Jones Clark, 89 years, of Port Deposit, MD, died Tuesday, March 15, 2011, at her home. Born April 6, 1921, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Essie Griffin and raised by the late Mary Cornish.
Known affectionately as “Mum” and to close friends as “Millie”, she was a member of Cokesbury United Methodist Church, Cokesbury, Port Deposit, Maryland. She worked in Food Service at the former Bainbridge Naval Training Center in Bainbridge, MD. Also as a caregiver employed by the Lee A. Patterson & Son Funeral Home, P.A., and she worked in housekeeping at the V.A. Medical Center in Perry Point, MD. Mum was an avid baker who will forever be known for her homemade rolls, pies and cakes and she also spent many hours sewing and quilting. She also had a passion for reading her collection of many books. In her retirement years she spent time traveling all around the country. She will always be known to those who loved and knew her as an outspoken, independent, social woman who lived life on her own terms.
Millie is survived by her son, Hezekiah (Joe) C. Clark, Jr. of Port Deposit, MD and her daughter Carolyn Ann Clark Johnson and her husband Carl, of Port Deposit, MD; and daughter-in-law Signolia Clark, Havre de Grace, MD; 8 grandchildren, Pamela Clark Harris and her husband, Walter, of Atlanta, Georgia, Carmen Clark Griffin and her husband Antoine, of Elkton, MD, Theresa Clark Tims and her husband, Samuel, of Havre de Grace, MD, Timothy M. Clark of Port Deposit, MD, Thomas Clark and his wife Roberta, of Port Deposit, MD, Carla Clark Blackmon and her husband, Demont of Killeen, TX, Melonie Clark Hill of Port Deposit, MD, and Nina Williams of Delaware; 16 great-grandchildren, Damien Clark, Sr., Jonathan Harris, Sydney Harris, Christopher Harris, Antoine Griffin, Tony Griffin, Samuel Tims, Jr., Timothy J. Clark, Thomas L. Clark, Niko Clark, Gianna Clark, DeMont D.Blackmon, Caliesha A. Blackmon , Shyheim Mitchell, Haissaun Mitchell, and Heavenly Hill; and 5 great-great grandchildren, Damien Clark Jr., Jasmine Clark, Taizier Griffin, Tayvin Griffin and Tareigh Griffin, niece Marqurite Lockley, and God-daughter Bertina Borrego, and a host of other nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Millie is preceded in death by her husband Hezekiah Caldwell Clark, Sr.; her daughter, Geraldine Clark; sons, James E. Clark and Thomas L. Clark, great-granddaughter, Caliesha A. Blackmon, and her sister Madeline Walker.
Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, March 26, 2011, 12 noon, at Cokesbury United Methodist Church, Port Deposit, MD. Visitation for family and friends will be held Saturday, March 26, 2011, 10 AM-12 Noon, at the church prior to the funeral service. Interment will be in Cokesbury Cemetery, Port Deposit, MD.
