Myrna Ellen (Mcmullen) Simmers

Myrna Ellen Simmers, 95 years, of Perryville, MD, died Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at her residence. Born August 23, 1917 in Perryville, MD, she was the daughter of the late Oscar M. and Agnes Richardson McMullen. Mrs. Simmers was a member of the Perryville United Methodist Church and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Susquehanna American Legion Post No. 135 of Perryville. During the late 1930’s and into the early 1940’s she worked at the former Perryville Drug Store.  She very much enjoyed gardening and canning vegetables. Mrs. Simmers is survived by her son, Joseph M. Simmers and wife, Patsy Boyce Simmers, of Port Deposit, MD; two granddaughters, Linda Testerman and husband, Mark of Aberdeen, MD, and Sharon Simmers of Greenwood, MO; two great grandchildren, Seth and Kyle Testerman; sister, Beatrice L. Owens of Gettysburg, PA; one niece and several nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Simmers was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph W. Simmers; brothers, Roland McMullen, Edward McMullen, Ivan McMullen, James McMullen, infant Oscar McMullen; and sister, Mary McMullen. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Amedisys Hospice Care in care of Lee A. Patterson & Son Funeral Home, P.A., P.O. Box 766, Perryville, MD  21903-0766. Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, October 8, 2012, 1 PM, at the Lee A. Patterson & Son Funeral Home, P.A., Perryville, MD. Visitation for family and friends will be held Monday, October 8, 2012, 11 AM until 1 PM, at the funeral home prior to the funeral service. Rev. Douglas Simmers of Crossway Church of Memphis, TN will officiate. Interment will be in Hopewell Cemetery, Port Deposit, MD.
