Nellie Edna McGlothlin Sumpter, age 92, went to be with the Lord on January 26, 2011, at the Calvert Manor Healthcare Center, Rising Sun, MD.
Nellie was born December 30, 1918 in Skeggs, near Grundy, Buchanan County, Virginia, to George Washington McGlothlin and Martha Delcina Jackson McGlothlin.
Nellie married the late Oakley Arnold Sumpter, Sr., on July 5, 1935. They had two children, Oakley Jr. and the late Alice Virginia Sumpter Schoff. She spent most of her life in and around Perryville. She and her husband operated a Cecil County school bus contract business for the Perryville area for many years. They also traveled extensively over the United States, Canada and Mexico, in conjunction with Mr. Sumpter’s very active participation in the Antique Automobile Club of America and his hobby/business of antique car restoration.
Nellie was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Susquehanna American Legion Post No. 135, Perryville, MD.
In addition to her son, she is survived by four grandchildren, Shirley Schoff Boulden and Beth Sumpter Walborn, both of Port Deposit, Thomas Franklin Schoff, of Colora and Delcina Schoff Creswell, of Perryville; eight grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, husband and daughter, Nellie was predeceased by six sisters, Winifred McGlothlin Owens, Ina McGlothlin Beers, Betty McGlothlin Larson, Eva McGlothlin Hall, Helen McClothlin Bizzell and Ruth McGlothlin Montgomery; and seven brothers, William, Thomas, Bert, Brady, Claude, Clyde Junior and Issac.

Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, February 1, 2011, 11 AM, at the Lee A. Patterson & Son Funeral Home, P.A., Perryville, MD. Visitation for family and friends will be held Monday, January 31, 2011, 7 - 9 PM, at the funeral home. Pastor Leslie G. Slak of the Perryville United Methodist Church, Perryville, MD, will officiate. Interment will be in Asbury Cemetery, Port Deposit, MD.
