Paul N. Linton, Sr., 89, of Port Deposit died Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at his home after a brief illness. He was born on December 6, 1922 in Port Deposit, the son of the late Howard N. Linton and Rhoda Elsie (Meck) Linton.
Paul retired from Aberdeen Proving Ground in 1978, where he had worked as a heavy equipment inspector. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served from 1943-1945 in the 819th Tank Destroyer Battalion, and again from 1947-1951. He was very patriotic and loved flying the flag and riding around in his vintage Might Mite and other military jeeps. He enjoyed gardening, reading, genealogy and spending time with his family. After his retirement, Paul decided to begin walking for his health, and walked miles and miles along the Rts 275-276-Craigtown Road corridor with his trusty German Shepherd dog. He continued walking until shortly before his death.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Frances M. (Flaharty) Linton; five children and their spouses, Linda and Sam Coale of Rising Sun, Jimmy and Linda Linton of Port Deposit, Sue and Larry Jameson of Harrington, Delaware, Paul, Jr. and Amber Linton of Port Deposit, and Howard Linton III and Paula of Rising Sun; seven grandchildren, Susan Coale Cole (Mike), Steve Coale (Kari), Jimmy Linton, Jr. (Nicole), Kevin Vaughan, Samantha Linton, Angie Linton Vaccaro (Jason), and Abie Linton; and three great-grandchildren, Hunter Cole, Jessi Vaccaro, and Nathan Linton. He is also survived by his siblings, Earl and Betty Linton of Port Deposit and Nancy Sprout of Elkton, many nieces and nephews, and his beloved cocker spaniel JoJo. He was preceded in death by his brother, Howard “Bud” Linton and his sister, Alice Thomas, as well as two brothers who died as children.
There will be a Service of Remembrance on Saturday, February 25, 2012, beginning at 3:00 p.m., at the Lee A. Patterson & Son Funeral Home, P.A., in Perryville. Friends and family are invited to gather for a visitation at the funeral home beginning at 2:00 p.m. As there are severe allergies in the family, it will be very much appreciated if those planning to attend will avoid wearing any perfumes or colognes.
Flowers are welcome and will be donated to the V.A. Medical Center in Perry Point after the service, or contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
