Rachel Ann Cason, 84 years, departed this life Thursday, July 26, 2018 in the University of Maryland Harford Memorial Hospital of Havre de Grace, MD. Born November 16, 1933 in Port Deposit, MD, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Addie Griffin Jones.
Rachel received her education from Port Deposit Colored School and George Washington Carver in Elkton, MD.
On December 12, 1953 Rachel was united in matrimony to the late John Wesley Cason. From this union 8 children were born.
Rachel worked at the Bainbridge Naval Training Center and later retired from the Marriott Corporation after 22 years of service. During her leisure time, Rachel loved bingo, crocheting, watching her favorite Family Feud, and spending time with family. Her true passion was praying.
Rachel joined Bethel A.M.E. Church and gave her life to Christ at the age of 14. While at Bethel, Rachel faithfully served on the Steward and Missionary Boards, the choir, and as a Prayer Warrior until her illness prevented her from attending. This did not stop Rachel, she faithful joined the prayer call and prayed for the sick, the shut ins, all who needed prayer. She was a true child of God and friend to all.
Rachel was preceded in death by her husband, John Wesley Cason; son, Lawrence E. Cason; daughter, Janice Robinson; brothers, Oscar, Wayman, Charles (Tody) Edward and Lawrence Jones; sisters, Delores, Stella and Mary Jones.
Rachel leaves to cherish her memory sons, Wesley Cason of Perryville, MD, Elwood Cason of Kent, WA, Jerry Cason (Tyrese) of North East, MD; daughters, Russel Glover (Robert) and Leslie Adams, both of Perryville, MD, Josephine Gaylord (Conrad) of Port Deposit, MD; grandson, Robert L. Bisard of Elkton, MD, whom Rachel raised; 20 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; brothers, Robert H. Jones, Jr. of Wilmington, DE, Clearance Jones of North East, MD; sisters, Shirley Jones of Abingdon, MD, Doris Clark and Jane Moore, both of Port Deposit, MD; Godson, Dorron Jackson, Sr.; God Daughter, Rachel Shockley; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many close and dearest friends.
Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, August 4, 2018, 12 Noon, at the Pleasant View Baptist Church of Port Deposit, MD. Visitation for family and friends will be held Saturday, August 4, 2018, 10 AM until 12 Noon, at the church prior to the funeral service. Rev. Michael Thompson will officiate. Interment will be in Cokesbury Cemetery, Port Deposit, MD.
