Raymond "Ray" Sylvester Wilhelm Jr., age 70, of Perryville, MD, passed away peacefully at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center with his family by his side. Ray fought a long, yet courageous battle with cancer. Ray was born October 6, 1953 to his late parents, Raymond Sylvester Wilhelm, Sr., and Lewellya Wilhelm.
Ray is survived by his wife of 35 years, Patty Wilhelm, and two daughters, Kaitlin Lovelace and Kristina Wilhelm. He was the proud Poppy to two grandchildren, Camden & Cora Lovelace.
Ray served his country in the United States Army as a young man, and his community as the Chaplain of the Susquehanna American Legion Post No. 135. He would have described himself as a master cabinet and countertop maker, one who loved any project presented to him.
Ray was a devoted Baltimore sports fan, spending many Sundays watching the Ravens and cheering on the Orioles during the warmer months. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, whether it was fishing or camping. After retirement, he enjoyed staying busy working on puzzles or models of military vehicles, airplanes, and ships.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Special Olympics or the Susquehanna American Legion Post No.135 in care of Lee A. Patterson & Son Funeral Home, P.A., P.O. Box 766, Perryville, MD 21903-0766.
A visitation will be held Sunday, October 6, 2024, 3 PM until 5 PM, at the Lee A. Patterson & Son Funeral Home, P.A, of Perryville, MD.
