Rebecca Lynn (Pepper) Duffy

Rebecca Lynn (Pepper) Duffy, a long-time resident of Elkton, MD, passed away Friday morning, September 23, 2016 at her home in Elkton, following a nearly two-year fight with breast cancer. Born November 2, 1949 in Rhinelander, WI, she moved with her family to the Wilmington, DE, area where she was raised. After graduating from Brandywine High School and University of Delaware where she obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, Becky began her teaching career with the Cecil County Public School system. Later finishing a Master’s degree at UD, she taught for 30 years with CCPS, teaching second graders for the vast majority of her career. Following her retirement from the school system, Becky spent time working for the Dance Station as well as volunteering with the Cecil Dance Theatre. Becky loved reading, especially historical fiction focusing on the Civil War time period. She also enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, doing counted cross-stitch, knitting, caring for her cats and fish, and playing games on her iPad. Serving as the historian for her family, Becky snapped and cataloged numerous photographs as well as spent significant time  digging deep into her family tree – something she greatly enjoyed. A fantastic wife and mother, the love and care that she consistently and constantly showed her family – many times in small ways – will continue to be a tremendous legacy to Becky. She is predeceased by her father, Everett A. Pepper, mother, Bernadette L. Pepper, and two brothers, Richard Paul Pepper and Robert James Pepper. Becky is survived by her husband of 37 years, Thomas Duffy, and her two grown children, Brent and Alison Duffy. Brent and his wife Natalie, reside in Pennsylvania with Becky’s newest loves, her 15-month-old-granddaughters Cameron and Alivia Duffy. In an effort to both extend a “thank you” as well as continue the joy that Becky found in reading, memorial gifts can be made to the Cecil County Public Library in care of Lee A. Patterson & Son Funeral Home, P.A., P.O. Box 766, Perryville, MD 21903-0766. A viewing is scheduled for Wednesday, September 28, 2016, 6 PM until 9 PM, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 450 Third St., Chesapeake City, MD 21915. The funeral service is being held Thursday, September 29, 2016, 11 AM, at the Lee A. Patterson & Son Funeral Home, P.A., Perryville, MD, followed by interment in North East Methodist Cemetery, North East, MD.
