Richard Carl Smith

Richard Carl Smith, 84 yrs, of Port Deposit, MD, passed away Sunday, May 19, 2024 in the ChristianaCare Union Hospital of Elkton, MD. Born May 24, 1939 in Elkins, WVA, he was the son of the late James and Mary Boggs.

Mr. Smith was a veteran of the U.S. Army 101 Airborne having served from 1959 until 1961. He was retired from the former Wiley Manufacturing Company of Port Deposit, MD, where he was employed in Quality Control.

Mr. Smith is survived by his daughters, Kimberly Crouse (Mike), Lorrey Padon (Jeff), Angela Troy (Greg), and Connie Thayer (STILL HASN’T FOUND A HUSBAND); son, Robbie Smith (Amelia); 18 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; three sisters; and one brother.

Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his loving wife, Betty Smith; sons, Frank Thayer and Kent Thayer.

Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, May 23, 2024, 7 PM, at the Asbury Church of Port Deposit, MD. Visitation for family and friends will be held Thursday, May 23, 2024, 5 PM until 7 PM, at the church prior to the funeral service. Pastor Michael A. Caldwell of Asbury Church will officiate. Interment will be private.
