Ruby Shires McGlothlin went home to be with her Lord and Savior Friday, March 29, 2013 at her residence. Born May 17, 1927 she was the daughter of the late Holly W. and Frances Lydia Reynolds Shires.
Ruby is survived by her daughter, Linda Fretwell Lozano (Sonny); son, Roger Fretwell (Debbie); special daughter-in-law, Linda Fretwell; granddaughters, Patty Fretwell George (Kevin), Dawn Fretwell Fehlman (Henry); great grandchildren, Logan, Justin and Lance; brothers, Wilbur “Bud” Shires (Marie), Holly “Deak” Shires (Mary Beth), Donald Shires (Marlene), Kenny Shires (Gail); sisters, Eleanor Shires Burcham (Arthur), Betty Shires Burcham (Steve), Jean Shires Elville (Ronnie); and sister-in-law, Patsy Shires.
Ruby was a member of Conowingo Baptist Church for many years. She had a passion for serving the Lord and winning others to him. She was the lead choir director for many years and also led the children’s department. Later Ruby and her husband, Claude, became active members of the First Baptist Church of Perryville.
Ruby was known for her excellent cooking and baking. Whenever there was a need in the community she could be counted on for a homemade cake and her famous gallon of lemon ice tea.
Ruby worked at various places including Bata Shoe Factory, Elkton Fashions, and in her last working years she worked for approximately 15 years at W.L. Gore & Associates, Inc., Fail Hill Plant, where she was a master seamstress and lead in her area.
Ruby will be greatly missed for the caring and love that she showed to everyone.
The family would like to express their gratitude to hospice for their wonderful support and care of Ruby.
In addition to her parents, Ruby was preceded in death by her first husband, William “Bill” Fretwell and second husband, Claude McGlothlin; brothers, Russell Shires, Jack Shires; and great grandson, Chad George.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the First Baptist Church of Perryville in care of Lee A. Patterson & Son Funeral Home, P.A., P.O. Box 766, Perryville, MD 21903-0766.
Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, April 3, 2013, 11 AM, at the First Baptist Church of Perryville. Visitation for family and friends will be held Tuesday, April 2, 2013, 7 PM until 9 PM, at the Lee A. Patterson & Son Funeral Home, P.A., Perryville, MD. Pastor Dr. John M.R. Gauger of the First Baptist Church of Perryville will officiate. Interment will be in Asbury Cemetery, Port Deposit, MD.
