Sandra Anne Buchanan, 80, of Nottingham, Pennsylvania, died Sunday, October 12, 2025, at Ware Presbyterian Village Oxford Health Center in Oxford, Pennsylvania, with her loved ones at her side.
Born July 1, 1945, in Havre de Grace, Maryland, Sandy was the daughter of the late Edith Clark Buchanan and the late Wilmer James (“Wink”) Buchanan. Sandy was a 1963 graduate of Perryville High School and received her B.A. from Immaculata College (now University) in 1967. She was employed at the Cecil County Department of Social Services as a caseworker in foster care and adoption from 1967 until 1988 when she retired to care for her father and later her mother. Her dedication to children did not stop when she retired. She was a lifelong advocate for children, their rights and protection. Sandy also loved music (all genres), poetry, reading, nature (trips to Longwood Gardens), animals (especially beagles), and her family.
Sandy is survived by her sister, Velma L. (“Val”) Buchanan, of Nottingham, Pennsylvania; her sister-in-law, Brenda Singleton Buchanan, of Perryville; her beloved nephew, Shawn Wayne Buchanan, and wife, Melody, of Perryville; her grand niece, Blayze Frazer, of Burgaw, North Carolina; her grand nephew, Beau Miller, and fiancee, Veronica Bernardi, of Havre de Grace; her grand nephew, Andrew G. Buchanan, of Perryville; and her long-time companion, Jeffrey Matthews, of Colora.
In addition to her parents, Sandy was preceded in death by her brother, Andrew Klair (“Buck”) Buchanan. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Johns Hopkins Hospital in care of Lee A. Patterson & Son Funeral Home, P.A., P.O. Box 766, Perryville, MD 21903-0766.
Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, October 17, 2025, 11:00 am, at the Lee A. Patterson & Son Funeral Home, P.A., of Perryville, Maryland. Visitation for family and friends will take place from 10:00 to 11:00 am followed by the funeral service. Father Jay McKee of Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Perryville, Maryland, will officiate. Internment will be in Fremont United Methodist Church Cemetery, Nottingham, Pennsylvania.
