Sheila Gertrude Dukes

Sheila Gertrude Dukes, 72 years, of Colora, MD, passed away Wednesday, May 28, 2025 in the University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Medical Center of Bel Air, MD. Born July 23, 1952 in Steubenville, OH, she was the daughter of the late John M. Waddell and Marcella Bear Bennington.

Sheila was an extraordinary woman, a beautiful, caring, loving soul that never met a stranger. There are no words to explain the person she was. Sheila loved the outdoors and planting and taking care of her flowers. Most of all, she loved spending time and doing things with her soulmate, Nelson Dukes. Wherever you saw Sheila, Nelson was right next to her and vice versa. This beautiful girl will be missed by so many!

Sheila was formerly employed by Cytec of Havre de Grace, MD, as a Lab Technician. She was a member of the Susquehanna American Legion Post No. 135 of Perryville, MD, a member of the Chesapeake Hog Chapter of Darlington, MD, and a Gold Star Family member.

Sheila is survived by her loving husband of 29 years, Nelson Parker Dukes; brothers, William Bennington, Jr. (Sherry) and Geary Bennington, Sr. (Lori); and adopted dog, Buddy.

In addition to her parents, Sheila was preceded in death by her step-father, William E. Bennington; brother, Larry Waddell; and beloved dogs, Pugs, Parker, and Gertie.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, June 28, 2025, 1 PM, at the Perryville Fire Company Minker Hall of Perryville, MD. Visitation for family and friends will be held Saturday, June 28, 2025, 12 Noon until 1 PM, at Minker Hall prior to the Celebration of Life service. Pastor Michael A. Caldwell of Asbury Church of Port Deposit, MD, will officiate.
