Shirley McCardell DeWeese, age 84, of Perryville, Md., passed away on June 3, 2013. Born on March 3, 1929 in Liberty Grove, Md., she was the daughter of the late Ernest Bayard McCardell and Lidie Morrison McCardell, and the wife of William W. DeWeese. A 1947 graduate of the Jacob Tome Institute in Port Deposit, she was employed by the Social Security Administration in Baltimore City and then transferred to the Public Health Administration at the Perry Point Veteran’s Administration Health Center. Later she enjoyed being a full-time homemaker who was dearly loved by her family. She was an active member of the Perryville United Methodist Church, where she was involved with the United Methodist Women.
Mrs. DeWeese is survived by her husband of 59 years, William W. DeWeese and her sons, Dale K. DeWeese and wife, Valerie, and Robert W. DeWeese and wife, Kathy, all of Port Deposit, Md., and grandchildren Brandon C. DeWeese and wife Morgan; Mary Elizabeth DeWeese; Adam R. DeWeese and fiancée Alexandra Olaya; and Scott M. DeWeese, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, C. LeRoy McCardell, Ralph E. McCardell and Ross McCardell, and sisters Marguerite Z. Montgomery, Elizabeth M. Carson and Lorraine M. McNeil.
Visitation will be held Thurs., June 6 from 6 – 8 p.m. and Fri., June 7 at 10 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. with Pastor Brett Pinder officiating. Interment will be at Harmony Chapel Cemetery, Conowingo, Md.
