Tivis Mayse passed away peacefully on October 7, 2026.
Tivis was born on October 5, 1932, in Floyd County, Kentucky, to Andy and Goria Mayse. In 1951, he moved to Port Deposit, Maryland, where he began working at Wiley’s Shipyard. He spent 32 years there as a rigger and crane operator, dedicating many years of hard work.
In 1952, Tivis met the love of his life, Edith Gail Hipkins. The two were married in March 1953 and began their life together in Port Deposit. They eventually settled in Conowingo, Maryland, where they raised their five children and created a lifetime of cherished memories. Tivis found great joy in watching his children play sports and seeing them work together. His family was a source of great pride and happiness throughout his life.
Tivis’ faith was an important part of his life, serving as strength and comfort throughout the years. His love for the Lord was a meaningful part of who he was, and his faith remained close to his heart. His family takes comfort in knowing that his legacy of faith and love will continue through the generations.
Tivis is survived by his beloved wife, Gail; his five children, Tim (Mary), Lynn (Jimmy), Greg (Pamela), Barry (Laura), and Robert; his grandchildren, Tivis (Karrie), Kimberly (Cejay), Justin (Krista), Ashley, and Abbey (Kip); his great-grandchildren, Breeann, Leeann, Paiten, Riley, and Alayna; and his great-great-grandchildren, Isaiah, Madyline, and Cooper.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Tavis and Edd; his sisters, Genene McPherson and Dorothy Gelreath; and his daughter-in-law, Cindi Mayse.
A graveside service to honor and celebrate Tivis’ life will be held on Monday, October 12, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Asbury Cemetery in Perryville, Maryland.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Gateway Baptist Church in Tivis’ memory in care of Lee A. Patterson & Son Funeral Home, P.A., P.O. Box 766, Perryville, MD 21903-0766.
Tivis will be lovingly remembered for his dedication to his family, years of hard work, steadfast faith, and treasured memories. His life was a blessing to those who knew and loved him, and his memory will live on through the generations of family he leaves behind.
