Virginia Helen May

Virginia Helen May, 92 years, of Conowingo, MD, passed away Saturday, February 14, 2026 at home. Born September 22, 1933 in Lansing, NC, she was the daughter of the late James and Lucy Blackburn Goss.

Virginia was a member of the Calvary Missionary Baptist Church of Rising Sun, MD, and was formerly employed in Nutrition and Food Service at the V.A. Medical Center of Perry Point, MD.

Virginia is survived by her son, James Marlan May II (Diane); daughter, Donna Susan Toliver (Joe); nine grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and one great great-grandchild.

In addition to her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, James M. May; sons, James Douglas “Doug” Shepherd and Daniel Melvin Shepherd; brother, Wilmer “Bill” Hurley; sister, Edna June Brooks; and Sydnee Shepherd.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, 35 Sylmar Road, Rising Sun, MD 21911.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, February 21, 2026, 12 Noon, at the Calvary Missionary Baptist Church of Rising Sun, MD. Visitations for family and friends will be Friday, February 20, 2026, 6 PM until 8 PM, at the Lee A. Patterson & Son Funeral Home, P.A., of Perryville, MD, with a second visitation scheduled for Saturday, February 21, 2026, 11 AM until 12 Noon, at the church prior to the funeral service. Pastor Charles Finney of the Calvary Missionary Baptist Church will officiate. Interment will be in the Calvary Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, Rising Sun, MD.
