Wilbur Lindy Shires

Wilbur Lindy Shires, 87 years, of Conowingo, MD, died Wednesday, July 6, 2016 in Abbey Manor Assisted Living of Elkton, MD. Born April 8, 1929 in New Bridge, MD, he was the son of the late Holly Wellington and Frances Lydia Reynolds Shires. Mr. Shires was affiliated with Janes United Methodist Church of Rising Sun, MD. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and is retired from Aberdeen Proving Ground of Aberdeen, MD, where he was employed in Personnel. He was a 32nd Degree Mason for over 50 years at Harmony Masonic Lodge No. 53 of Port Deposit, MD. He also served as a deacon at Conowingo Baptist Church and was a past President of the Rising Sun Fire Company. Mr. Shires is survived by his wife, Marie Edith Whitenker Shires of Conowingo, MD; daughter, Cheryl Hall Huston and husband, David, of Oxford, PA; grandson, Christopher W. Hall and wife, Sarah, of Phoenix, AZ; 6 step-grandchildren; 8 step-great  grandchildren; brothers, Holly “Deak” Shires, Donald Shires, Ken Shires; sisters, Betty Burcham and Jean Elville; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Shires was preceded in death by his brothers, Jack Shires and Russell Shires; sisters, Ruby McGlothlin and Eleanor Burcham. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lighthouse Youth Center of Oxford, PA, or the Rising Sun Fire Company in care of Lee A. Patterson & Son Funeral Home, P.A., P.O. Box 766, Perryville, MD 21903-0766. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, July 9, 2016, 10 AM, at the Conowingo Baptist Church of Conowingo, MD. Visitation for family and friends will be held Friday, July 8, 2016, 6 PM until 8 PM, at the Lee A. Patterson & Son Funeral Home, P.A., Perryville, MD. Pastor Ken Shires of Edgewood Baptist Church of Edgewood, MD, will officiate. Interment will be in Conowingo Baptist Church Cemetery, Conowingo, MD.
