Elizabeth Rebecca Hughes, of Conowingo, MD, was called home by the Lord on January 18, 2024. Elizabeth was born to the late Alfred & Ruth (Greer) Benjamin on May 20, 1945, in Havre de Grace, MD.
For nearly 51 years Lizzie was a friend, partner, and loving wife to Jeffrey Hughes. She was the devoted mother of Kimberly Eldreth Akers (Greg) of Phoenix, AZ, Timothy Eldreth (Laurie) of Colora, MD, and stepdaughter Heather Toth (Mike) of Climax, NC. Her greatest pride was her grandchildren Ryan, Dane, Dylan, Jonny, Jake, Justin, Jared, Colton, and Brenley.
Liz was a strong and independent woman, who loved life and enjoyed traveling, visiting her children, and experiencing new adventures. She served as Mason Dixon American Legion Auxiliary Unit No. 194 President and was proud of her Unit and the Veterans they assist. After retirement, she proudly worked as an Election Judge in Perryville and Conowingo.
Liz held various jobs during her lifetime. She began as a technician at American Cyanimid in Havre de Grace, MD. She then joined Chesapeake & Potomac Telephone Company of Maryland as a Service Representative. After the passing of her father, she joined her mother in the operation of an ARCO service station in Conowingo, MD. Eventually, she joined Maryland Materials in North East, MD, retiring after 28 years of service to the company. She enjoyed working with the public in all the positions she held.
Liz is dearly loved and missed, but we will hold her in our arms again.
