Mrs. Marlyn Anne Shutt, aged 86, of Fort Pierce, Florida passed away on March 25, 2024, with her
children at her side.
Marlyn was born to Ted and Edith Olson in Havre de Grace, MD. After graduating high school and
working for a couple of years, Marlyn met her husband Robert Shutt at a dance in June of 1957.
They were introduced by Marlyn’s grandmother–and it proved to be a match made in heaven. The
couple married the following September after a whirlwind courtship.
Dedicated to her family, Marlyn was also a working mother, and acted as office manager for several
physicians. Marlyn enjoyed exercise and taught aerobics in the late 1970s. She was outgoing and
loved social occasions. She will be warmly remembered by many as a sympathetic listener who
often elevated the spirits of those who came into her life, even in a casual encounter at the pool. In
her later years, she was a very dedicated advocate of water walking. She also was an enthusiastic
mah-jongg player. Her friends who enjoyed seeing her in many social settings will miss her vivacity and friendly conversation.
Marlyn was a lifelong reader with a very broad interest in books on many subjects, including fiction
and biography. She was a gifted cook, and to this day we cherish the recipe she brought to the
family for Merk’s Coffee Cake.
Marlyn and Bob, who enjoyed sixty years of loving and devoted marriage, were snowbirds from 1997 to 2004, when they decided to move to Florida permanently.
Marlyn is survived by her son Steve of Massachusetts and daughter Denise of Fort Pierce, Florida.
Memorial contributions may be made to any Children’s Cancer health service of your choice.
