Michael Hollis Obituary

Michael Joseph Hollis, 68 years, of Charlestown, MD, passed away Saturday, May 20, 2023 at home. Born November 15, 1954 in Pittsburgh, PA, he was the son of Grace Kumnik Hollis and the late Michael E. Hollis.

Mike followed in his father’s footsteps with a lengthy career as a telecommunications engineer. He recently retired following 30+ years with AT&T Lucent Technology of Hunt Valley, MD.

During his free time, Mike enjoyed fishing, boating, hunting, and cheering on his hometown Pittsburgh Steelers and Penguins. Mike enjoyed using his riding mower to cut his and his neighbor’s lawns. He and Marlene enjoyed taking frequent day trips, watching football and hockey together, and shared a passion for both fishing and crabbing. One of Mike’s heroic gifts during his lifetime was donating one of his kidneys to his sister.

Mike is survived by his loving wife, Marlene Herget; daughter, Nicole Hollis; siblings, Judy Eiben (Rich), Mark Hollis (Karen), Diane Santo (John), Linda Eicheldinger (Steve), Nancy Smathers (Jim), and Dan Hollis (Annette); sister-in-law, Michele Herget; and his many nieces and nephews whose lives were enriched by their Uncle Mike.

Mike will be missed by his family and many close friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, June 22, 2023, 1 PM until 5 PM, at the V.F.W. Post No. 6027 of North East, MD. Interment will be private.
